Silvery Tweed Cereals – suppliers of premium quality cereals and seeds

Based in the picturesque coastal Northumberland town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Silvery Tweed Cereals process, manufacture and supply premium-quality cereal and seed ingredients to many of the leading names in the baking and cereals industries throughout the UK and Europe.

We’re a modern, family-owned business, and one of the best-known cereal suppliers in the UK. Our extensive range of cereal products ranges from the straightforward – flour, cereal flakes, grain and seed blends – to the unusual, with bespoke products such as granola clusters with fruit-flavoured coatings all part of our repertoire.

With purpose-built facilities operating across four separate sites, and employing more than 90 staff across its operations, Silvery Tweed Cereals has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s foremost supplier of cereal ingredients to the bakery ingredients and cereal sectors.

Our facilities

The Trading Estate Mill produces a large range of cereal flakes, cut grains and speciality flours to our customers’ specifications.

Our seed plant is dedicated to world class-standard seed cleaning and seed blending, using state-of-the-art colour sortex technology, metal detection and in-line magnets to ensure product integrity.

The Henry Ogle Mill houses our purpose-built cereal blending operation, supplying cereal and seed blends to businesses across the food industry.

At our coating plant, we apply a wide range of sweet and savoury coatings to cereals and seeds. The coating plant is also where we produce granola and manufacture clustered cereals.

Our values

At Silvery Tweed, our customers are our partners. We continually research customer and market trends to anticipate future demand and improve the service we deliver.

We remain a family business at heart. Our success is built on trust, flexibility, responsiveness and an eagerness to listen to what our customers want, then to deliver it, adding value along the way.

Additionally, we are very aware of our position within our local community. Sourcing the majority of our grains from farms and merchants within a 40-mile radius of Berwick, we’re able to champion local suppliers and promote produce grown in the region. This commitment to the development and economy of the local area can also be seen in our support for local employment, events and families.

Our history

We’re proud to be able to say that Silvery Tweed’s heritage stretches back over 175 years, and has remained family-owned throughout its lifespan. Established by H. O. Short in 1843 near the small village of Belford in rural Northumberland, in the present day the business is located on the Tweedside Trading Estate in coastal Berwick-upon-Tweed and continues to move from strength to strength.
