Getting the perfect mix for specific beers often requires a magical collaboration to achieve a new taste, look, or mouthfeel.
That is why the ‘relentlessly progressive’ Ossett Brewery entered a partnership with ‘cereal innovators’ Silvery Tweed Cereals for adjuncts to use in its hazy beer range.
Silvery Tweed Cereals supplies premium-quality ingredients to the food and drink sector and works with breweries of all sizes to supply adjuncts for the brewing process.
A partnership built in the north
Ossett and Silvery Tweed Cereals came together on the back of each other’s reputations for quality products. Both based in the North, Yorkshire grit (Ossett) meets The Borderlands (Silvery Tweed Cereals) for some truly exciting brews.
Silvery Tweed provides flaked wheat (wholegrain), which, unlike raw adjuncts, is pre-gelatinised so it can be added directly to the mash to introduce starches that convert into fermentable sugars, without a separate cereal mash step.
This streamlines the process, while adding a full mouthfeel and a hazy appearance. Silvery Tweed’s adjuncts are used in Ossett’s Hazy Rat, King Rat and King of Terrors beers.
The rest is history, as they say. Now two years old, the partnership is going from strength to strength, with Ossett increasing the quantity they order from Silvery Tweed, increasing by 30% in 2025. SALT, also owned by Ossett Brewery, are also now being supplied by Silvery Tweed.
What they say
Matt Howgate, production director at Ossett Brewery, says, “Having known about Silvery Tweed’s quality of service and reputation from a previous position, I was quick to enter into conversations about adjuncts for Ossett.”
“Silvery Tweed has provided quality products with a consistent supply. The team is supportive of changes in demand and production, and the communication is great.”
Silvery Tweed Managing Director, Bob Gladstone, adds, “Ossett and Salt are known for their fresh and exciting beers, and it is great to be working with such forward-thinking brewers. We look forward to continuing our partnership”.
