There are celebrations at Silvery Tweed Cereals, as engineering manager Phil Winson marks 30 years with the company.
Phil started as contractor, becoming a shift engineer before moving roles to take on a senior engineer position and eventually the engineering manager responsible for a team of six.
Phil says he was “delighted” to have his contract extended and then become part of the Silvery Tweed family.
“It’s a family business, and you can really feel that. Everyone supports each other and mucks in. It was wonderful to be offered a role in this company, in the town where my parents live, and where I could settle down and start my own family. Now here we are, 30 years later!”
Bob Gladstone, managing director at Silvery Tweed, adds, “It is a great achievement for Phil, and we are lucky to have had him in the team for the last three decades. His commitment speaks for itself; through his career progression and the respect he garners from his colleagues.”
Phil’s role sees him using his machinery knowledge to assist the Health and Safety Department. He is also part of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) team, which ensures all equipment on site is properly serviced and calibrated to protect the products Silvery Tweed supplies.
Phil has also played a role in helping the company on its sustainability journey. Part of his role has involved upgrading or modernising plant equipment to be more energy efficient, and his work has been instrumental in evolving company processes to make sure they meet green standards.
When asked to reflect on his journey at Silvery Tweed, Phil said, “It’s the best I could ask for. It’s been interesting, varied and supportive. It’s a privilege, when you spend so much time at work, to have such a nice experience throughout your career.”
