This National Beer Day, we wanted to celebrate our partnership with Britain's oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame. Silvery Tweed Cereals has provided Shepherd Neame with white rice flakes for over 25 years.
Ageing gracefully
Known for its award-winning, distinctive beers, some of which use recipes that are centuries old, Shepherd Neame has been brewing in Kent since 1698, and possibly before! With more than 300 pubs throughout London and the South East for you to enjoy its beers on draught, you will also find its beers in both supermarkets and bespoke beer markets.
Keeping it light
At Silvery Tweed, we provide cereals that can be used as adjuncts in the brewing process to help enhance the brew's flavour, aroma and colour. Adjuncts can also be used to bulk out the product for mass production or to increase the alcohol content in the finished beer.
Shepherd Neame uses our white rice flakes in a range of its beers, including Sunlik and Five Grain, as well as using them in some of its seasonal beers. These rice flakes help retain a light body, light colour and clean flavours with a smooth crisp taste. For example, Shepherd Neame’s Five Grain is “a 5% refreshing, balanced craft lager. Barley, rye, wheat, maize and rice combine to result in a complex yet refreshing pale gold lager, while the use of aromatic French Strisselspalt hops lends a distinctive refreshing citrus aroma”.
The composition of rice flakes means they become part of the overall fermentable starch profile in the mash.
