Silvery Tweed Cereals installs new defibrillator for site safety
To reflect the importance of health and safety on our sites, we have installed
two defibrillators at the Silvery Tweed premises, to help in case of a cardiac emergency.
The new defibrillators, the idea of apprentice, Lily Capes, are located at our Henry Ogle Mill and Trading Estate sites with employees across the business trained on how to use them. Previously, the nearest defibrillator to Silvery Tweed was nearly half a mile away, which could have led to a significant delay in a patient receiving aid in the event of a cardiac event occurring.
Lily said, “Statistics show that 12 people under the age of 35 die every week because a defibrillator is not within a close enough range. This substantially increases with age. Without fast treatment, more than 95% of cardiac arrests are fatal.
Silvery Tweed Director, Sarah Gladstone said, “As a company, we are committed to having the highest levels of health and safety for everyone who comes to our site. When Lily approached the board with a well-thought-out proposal showing details of how they could provide cover for multiple parties and the benefits of funding and fitting the equipment, it was an easy decision to make.”
The defibrillators are accessible during office hours, or while someone is on site. There is clear signposting around both sites ensuring the nearest defibrillators can be located promptly in an emergency. If required, they could be used by the public if a member of staff is there to give access.
We hope these will not be needed but we are grateful for Lily’s forward-thinking so we can help reduce the risk in the event of an emergency.
